Our family vacation this year was supposed to be 3 nights in Holland, Michigan which is a small beachtown on the west side of Michigan, about a 3 hour drive away from Chicago. Though things didn't turn out exactly as we planned. We got there Saturday afternoon, got settled, went to dinner and put Jace to bed in our hotel. He didn't last long and we'll just say it was a very long night! He cried and wouldn't go back to sleep, we even tried driving around Holland at 2am which we've never done before but nothing worked. So in the morning we were exhausted and ready to turn around and drive home...that little stinker! I got the hotel to fully refund our two remaining nights although we were ready to leave without a refund it was that bad! But we decided to make the most of Sunday before we drove back that night and we ended up having a lot of fun.
We went to lunch at a Dutch restaurant and I made Jace sit in this nerdy Dutch high chair, poor kid.
Jace had a great time feeding the ducks puffs, it was fun because there were so many different kind of ducks and they were very friendly!
We had to go to the beach because that was the main reason for the visit. The weather turned out to be great and we had fun playing in the sand and wading in the freezing cold water.

After the beach we went to the Windmill Island Gardens. It has a real authentic and still working Dutch windmill that we toured, gardens to walk around, and just a lot of Dutch buildings and shops. Jace found some horses to pet.

So we got back two days earlier than planned and Ryan had already taken off Monday and Tuesday so we had a "staycation" in Naperville. We went out to eat, had a picnic in the park, went swimming and just enjoyed being together as a family! Hopefully not too long in the future we can go on vacation again!

Sometimes a vacation isn't a vacation for parents but it's good to get your kids out and not to spoiled with their own bed. I am sorry it was rough. It looks like it was pretty though. I can't wait to see you in a couple of weeks call me and let me know the details.
That stinks. I know how you feel. We tried to go to Park City for a weekend and the same thing happened. I've decided that's the curse of getting your kids to sleep in their beds. They won't sleep anywhere else.
well, just like Peru, even the "bad parts" of vacation create lasting memories! And we also just watched the videos of Jace walking - so cute!
I'm sorry your vacation didn't turn out the way you wanted. I had a bunch of those kind of trips with my family when we lived in Germany. We always had fun though, and we just laugh about the not so fun parts now. The memories are almost more fun than the vacation.
